For the first time in a long time, the Super Eagles are focused and not distracted because of money hence the outstanding performances.
Before now, whenever the team goes to any tournament, being it the African Cup of Nations, AFCON or FIFA World Cup, there is always an argument over money not being paid. It is either argument over allowances or bonuses but that seems to be a thing of the past especially under the present administration.
We gathered on good authority that the present administration of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF met a huge sum of debts on assumption of office and were servicing it. This sends fear into Nigerians especially football lovers because they were afraid that it was also going to affect the allowances and bonuses of players but surprisingly that has never happened.
Reliable information says the Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces, President Tinubu Ahmed Tinubu has cleared all the monies that the players are being owed, and also approved the budget for the ongoing AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire. This is what is responsible for the outstanding performances of the Super Eagles. The players are not bothered but rather focus on the task before them.
The Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh must also be commended for being able to convince President Tinubu to release the money needed to prosecute the AFCON on time. Not only that, he has had various meetings with the NFF to ensure that things are place.
Lastly, the NFF board led by its President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau must be praised for managing the situation in his hands. This is the first time in a long time that there is no quarrel over money or accusations of players being cheated or not being paid.
It is believed that their efforts will result in the lifting of the AFCON trophy which was last won in 2013 while also asking that the same efforts be channeled into other sports especially as we prepare towards the All Africa Games in Ghana in March.
