African Games: Nigeria loses to DR Congo in Handball Semi Final

Nigeria, on Wednesday, lost 29-20 to DR Congo in the handball event semi final of the 13th African Games ongoing in Ghana.

The Golden Arrows went into the match with the understanding that they will be making history if they got a victory but they met more disciplined and a better defensive minded DR Congo who forced the Coach Rafiu Salami’s men to unnecessary turnovers which cost them.

DR Congo took their chances and earned a well deserved victory against Nigeria.

Thus, Nigeria will play in their fifth third place match at the handball events of the Africa Games against Benin Republic on Friday at 3pm.

The Golden Arrows had played in four third place matches at the handball event of the Africa Games winning three bronze medals (Cairo 91, Harare 95 and Abuja 2003) while they finished fourth in Brazzaville 2015)

A victory over Benin Republic will ensure that they win the bronze medal for the fourth time.
