African goalkeepers can now compete with their foreign counterparts – TSG

The Technical Study Group, TSG of the Confederation of African Football, CAF at the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023 said with the performances they have seen so far, the goalkeepers from the continent can compete favourably with their counterparts from other continents.

This piece of information was made known during a press conference to look at the tactical and technical aspects of the matches played so far.

The leader of the team, Mr. Raul said, “The goalkeeper is the first player the coach should think of. Our goalkeepers can now compete with international ones. Our goalkeepers are up to the task, they are good players. They are the ones that manage the game, slow down, and dictate the pace of the game. Our goalkeepers have given more assurance to their teams. Before now, people thought Africans were not good or smart enough to be goalkeepers but this tournament has proven them wrong.”

He further said, one of the considerations for the host of this year’s AFCON is the weather. He disclosed that because of the weather, they introduced a cooling break which has also helped the game to develop.

“One of the considerations for the hosting of this year’s AFCON is the weather. The weather is hot hence we introduced a water cooling break. The cooling break is two minutes, it gives the coaches the opportunity to talk to their players. Cooling breaks are a wonderful tool for the performance of players.
