There seems to be fear and panic in the camp of the All Progressives Congress, APC as some of the former presidential aspirants in the last primaries failed to show up for a proposed meeting.
According to one of the aspirants, Dr Nicolas Felix, in a statement on Monday, the meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, yesterday in Abuja but was cancelled because of the non-availability of the aspirants.
His statement reads, “Please be informed that the strategic meeting of 2023 Presidential Aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, scheduled to hold on Wednesday the 31st of August has been postponed.”
He continued, “A new date for the meeting will be communicated soon. Apologies for any inconvenience(s) that this might cause.”
However, Mr. Felix did not give any reason for the postponement but we gathered that some of the aspirants are still aggrieved hence they have stayed away from anything that has to do with the party.
There are fears that some of them might be planning to work for other political parties underground hence the proposed meeting to address some pressing issues especially reconciliation and stretegy on how to win the upcoming elections in 2023.
However, that may not be said of the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo who traveled yesterday for official duty in the USA.
Those who were expected to be in the meeting and who were presidential aspirants are: Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, former Minister of Transportation,
Rotimi Amaechi; former Science and Technology Minister, Ogbonnaya Onu and former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba.
Others are: Governors Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), Ben Ayade (Cross River), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) and Yahaya Bello (Kogi).
Pastor Tunde Bakare, Senator Ajayi Boroffice; former Zamfara governor, Ahmad Sani; former Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; former Imo State governor and serving senator, Rochas Okorocha; former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; Dr Nicolas Felix; former Information Minister, Ikeobasi Mokelu; Mr. Tein Jack-Rich and the only female, Uju Ken-Ohanenye complete the number.
