Council Chairman of St. Charles Catholic Church, Lwanga, English Community, Chief Onwuchelu Michael Emeka said Holy Child International School was set up to help our children not to forget their morals, identity and heritage.
He stated this at the 25th Year Anniversary Celebration of the church and Fund Raising for the school on Sunday at the Church premises in A’djame, Cote d’Ivoire.
His words, “We actually set up the Holy Child International School because we don’t want our children to forget their identity, morals, values and heritage. As we are living here in Cote d’Ivoire, we cannot afford to make the mistake of not letting them know where they are from and moreover, it will help them in future if they are able to speak two international languages.”
Chief Onwuchelu also said that as part of the 25th Years Anniversary, they are using the celebration to also raise funds for the construction of their school, so that it can move to its permanent site.
He further disclosed that they have already acquired a land for the school and that they
cannot wait to start and complete the school on time so that the children can start a new school session at the new permanent site which will boast of modern facilities and equipment.
Also speaking, Chairman of the 25th Year Anniversary/Fund Raising, Chief Emeka Ezeatuegu said they are envisaging to finish the gigantic project between 2025 and 2026 so that school session can also commence there immediately without distraction.
The man who also doubles as the vice chairman of the Catholic Men Organization, CMO however urged parishioners and their guests to support the project so that it could be completed on time.
Meanwhile, the event was fun all the way, as there were foods and drinks while the fund raising was on. However, many of the parishioners will not forget Sunday, the 22nd of September in a hurry because of the crowd the anniversary attracted as dignitaries came from all walks of life.
The parishioners did not also disappoint as they came out in their large numbers, and they also contributed their widow’s mite to ensure that the school comes to a reality. Also present were representatives from other parishes from Treichville, Agree, Marcory just to mention but a few, to understudy what is happening in St. Charles Parish, A’djame.
Meanwhile, the amount needed for the construction of the project was not disclosed but we gathered that they were able to raise a substantial amount that can take care of the project successfully.
Recall that the Parish operates two services and they are the first to introduce English Service in the whole of Abidjan while other parishes are fast emulating them by also forming their own English Community.
Although the school is already existing at its temporary site, however, when completed, the school will be an all-English School, the first and only, in the whole of Cote d’Ivoire. The school operates primary and secondary school classes.
