…advises African leaders to be servants rather than rulers
Information has revealed that the recent visit of Her Regal Majesty, Amb. Dr. Queen Temitope Morenike Enitan-Ogunwusi to Uganda was responsible for the unbanning of the country by the American Embassy.
This revelation was made by the Queen during the Elation Magazine Award Nite which took place at the AH Hotel and Conference Centre, Accra, Ghana, where she was honoured with the “Mother Africa Merit Award.”
Queen Temitope Ogunwusi, who was emotional and passionate said she came across some children on the internet who are singers but doesn’t like the condition of where they were staying in the ghetto hence she decided to visit them.
She said when she wrote to the Ugandan Government, demanding to visit, she was discouraged from going to the ghetto, claiming that it was not safe and that it was going to be demeaning to her status but rather suggested that they will bring the children out from the ghetto for her to see them but she insisted.
And when they discovered that she was ready to visit the ghetto, they quickly provided security for her and they also joined her entourage. According to Queen Enitan-Ogunwusi, “The government and the elite have not been to the ghetto before, her visit was the first ever because there is a huge gap between the poor and the rich.”
The Queen said after her return to Nigeria, the Ugandan Government sent a delegate to go and appreciate the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan-Ogunwusi for giving the Queen permission to visit them and for the kind gesture towards the children.
She continued, “When they came, I hosted them with the King and the guy said something. He said, he has been hoping and praying that when he sees me face-to-face, he will be able to share this with me.
“He said before I came to Uganda, the American government banned them for five years and after five years, they refused to renew the visa and you know when it comes to American embassy banning you, it affects other countries, you won’t be able to travel, you will be restricted but after my visit, somebody called from the American embassy and said, see me at the embassy,” she noted.
Her Regal continued, “And when he got there, the lady said, “I am a Nigerian, in fact, I am from Osun State. My Queen, the greatest Queen in the entire continent, my own Queen came to your ghetto. Then why did we ban you in the first place. If she can identify with you, that means nothing is wrong with you. And to cut the long story short, immediately, she lifted the ban, gave them visas and other countries started giving them visas.”
The beautiful Queen who is so humble further said people used to tell her to maintain her status and not to relate with people who are not in her class.
Her words, “People said I should not be seen in some places or with some people but I always tell them how am I able to achieve all these, it is because of the grace I enjoy from God Almighty couple with the access I have from the King, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan-Ogunwusi, that automatically paved the way for me to move.
“Not just having the grace from him, also the spirit of humility. And then having it in mind, the passion, the fulfilment, the drive to effortlessly do things. I hear people say to me that, Your Majesty, you are not supposed to be with these sets of people or you are not supposed to relate with anyone who is not in your class.
“I said no, those are my identities. I want to be seen in the slum. I want to go to the ghetto, I want to be seen with the street kids, I want to move with the market women. We are all the same. As a matter of fact, they chose me, either spiritually or physically to serve them. So I am a servant.
“Logically, I am a servant, if you are in a place of authority, and you don’t have it stated in your mind that you are a servant, then you don’t have to be there. A great leader is a true servant,” she concluded.
