As teams gear up for the second edition of the annual Jagaban Football Cup, organizers of the eagerly anticipated football tournament have informed that the tournament is in sync with the ‘New Hope’, theme of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
According to Hajji Gafar Liameed, the Chief Organiser of the foremost grassroots football tournament, the Jagaban Cup, goes beyond mere participation by teams, but essentially provides new hope for a better career paths and of course, a brighter tomorrow, for the indigent, but talented footballers and the football the football ecosystem.
“Beyond mere rhetorics and the allure of participating in such grand tournament, we are concerned about giving newer hope and better opportunities to the clubs and the hundreds of footballers at the grassroots levels,” Liameed, who is a renowned for his penchant for discovering and nurturing grassroots players to stardom stated.
“It is our mandate to continue to ensure that the talents pool gets larger, as it keeps growing the entire Nigeria football ecosystem. Last year’s tournament was fruitful and this year’s edition promises to be better,” Liameed, the Vice-Chairman of Lagos State Football Association enthused confidently.
The eight teams invited to participate in the tournament include, Ikorodu City, Broad City, Smart City, 36 Lion, Mavlon FC, Dino SC, The Charlesann and Imperial FA.
Meanwhile, the second edition of the Jagaban Cup, which is scheduled to hold March 26-29, 2024, at the prestigious Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, would witness the presence of top foreign football scouts and managers drawn from different European countries.
