Chief Naval of Staff of Nigeria, CNS on Tuesday crashed out of the ongoing African Women Volleyball Club Championship taking place at the Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
They lost to Litto VC of Cameroun who made it through to the last eight in the championship following their 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 25-17).
There was a series of beautiful rallies as players attacked from the serve, all racking up points. LTV looks sharp after a tussle for points, super spiked at set point for a 25-22 win for LTV.
It was much closer in the beginning of the 2nd set. LTV came out narrowly on top. Quick attacks and well-crafted blocks helped them to extend lead. CNS pulled closer. A monster block from CNS showed their fighting spirit, but LTV closed the set out 25-18.
CNS piled on the pressure and LTV seemed to run out of steam, good spiking and an ace helped give CNS an 14-7 lead, CNS was on fire and an unfortunate LTV fault at the end of the set gives CNS the win in the third set 25-18.
It was all to play in the 4th set, CNS wanting to level, LTV fighting to secure quarterfinal berth. At the end it was LTV whose spirit was merited with a 25-18 set win and 3-1 match victory.
While,Two-time champions CFC of Tunisia are through to the quarterfinals after a 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-20) win over Sococim of Senegal in their round of 16.
Championship record holders, Al Ahly of Egypt sealed their place in the quarterfinals with a resounding 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-15) win over Mayo Kani Evolution of Cameroun.
AHL took the first set 25-17 with quick movement and distribution of the ball around the court. The young MKE side played some excellent defence on the backcourt to save a number of balls. It was again a difficult pattern for AHL in the second set contesting every point. A number of hitting and serving mistakes from both teams didn’t change how close it was. AHL took the last few points to win 25-19.
It was fairly close in the beginning of the third set. MKE got a good swipe out although AHL found more holes in the MKE defence and led 13-10. MKE had some brilliant spikes, but AHL took the set 25-15 and secured themselves a place in the quarter finals.
On the other hand, Kenya Pipeline company Volleyball Club (KPC) of Kenya defeated Spiking Stars Volleyball (SSV) of Botswana in three sets.
1st Set 25-15,
2nd set 25-12
3rd set 25-6.
