Imo state sports commissioner, Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo has expressed optimism that the state contingents at the ongoing 21st National sports festival tagged Delta 2022 will surpass previous records by winning more medals in this year’s edition.
The commissioner said this when he was speaking to Sports Journalists in team Imo’s camp in Asaba, Delta State.
He pointed out that the team will surpass the previous records and so far team Imo has garnered 12 gold medals but he is targeting 40 gold medals before the end of the sporting fiesta.
Okoronkwo also informed that he has been with the contingent in the camp and they are quite happy and in high spirits as conquerors.
“if we had to make comparison with what they did in the previous years from now, there is great improvement and so far the events have not ended yet.
Am glad team Imo have harvested 28 medals Already and there are more games going on in the festival and i will not deny the fact that the athletes are determined and want to make names for themselves, the State and nation at large.
I am committed to the good of the state and am happy with the athletes and so i encourage them to do more and that is why i have made their welfare my priority.
I have been with them (team Imo) and this athletes are all in high spirit. so far everything around them has been working well, and there would be more medals in the coming days.” Okoronkwo concluded.
