Team Sokoto, on Friday, produced a ruthless second-half display to demolish Kano State 39–22 in the headline encounter of Day 5 of the women’s handball event at the National Sports Festival, ongoing in Ogun State.
The highly anticipated clash started on an even note at the MKO Sports Arena handball court, with Sokoto narrowly leading 15–13 at halftime but the second period was completely one-sided as the Sokoto ladies overwhelmed their Kano counterparts with a dominant performance that saw them outscore their opponents 24–9 after the break.
In the day’s other fixtures, Delta State edged Imo 30–29 in a gripping match that went down to the wire. Delta led 15–13 at halftime and did just enough to withstand a late surge from Imo, who pushed hard in the closing minutes but couldn’t find the equalizer.
Meanwhile, Kogi State battled past Plateau State 33–29 in a well-contested game. Both sides were tied 13–13 at halftime, but Kogi’s sharper execution in attack and solid defense proved decisive.
The Quarter Finals will be played at Alake Sports Center on Saturday.
