Plateau State Team was too good for their opponent, as they defeated M2 Academy by 50-36 to emerge champions of the second edition of the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Democracy Day Basketball Championship.
The match which witnessed physicality, a touch of skills and resiliency was very thrilling and interesting. The two teams proved to the spectators why they deserved to be in the finals.
Recalled that both teams remained unbeaten all through before the final match on Wednesday.
In the third-place match played earlier, the FCT team defeated their Kaduna counterparts by 70–53 to pick the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, the five-day tournament which started on Saturday, June 14, came to a halt on Wednesday, today. Although, the CDS, General Christopher Musa was on an official engagement, the aim has already been achieved.
We were informed by one of the officials that many talents were discovered from the 16 teams (10 male and 6 female) and ready to be nurtured to stardom. The next edition is expected to take place in 2026.
