Rangers exit La-Liga Tourney on a high

The Rangers International F.C’ U-15 team will play no more part in the 2023 La-Liga/NPFL U-15 Promise League taking place at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun state after they were forced to a barren draw by Gombe United U-15 side in their third group D match to amass a total of two points.

Despite exiting the championship, coach Izuchukwu Okoronkwo tutored side earned rave reviews from organizers and sports journalists covering the competition as four players won the Most Valuable Player award in the three matches played.

Also, four of the club’s players earned automatic call-ups to the National U-15 squad by the coach of the cadet national team, Haruna Ilerika.

In the first match against last season’s losing finalist, 3SC, midfielder, Amarachi Okwara scooped the MVP award while in the second encounter with El-Kanemi Warriors, attacking sensation, Godswill Usoro Imeh was voted the MVP and in the last encounter against Gombe United, the duo of defender, David Kalu and midfield maestro, Amarachi Okwara earned top marks.

Coach Okoronkwo in a chat, said, “It was a good learning experience for my team and we hope to come back better in the next edition. My players did their best which obviously was not good enough to keep us longer in the competition. However, I am happy with the team’s commendations and we shall build on it going forward.”

Administrative Secretary of Rangers International F.C., Barrister Ferdinand Ugwuarua while reacting to the cadet team’s performance at Ikenne, said, “It was a good representation that we had from the young boys even when we expected more from them. I am sure that with the number of awards won by our players coupled with the national team invitations extended to four of our boys, it was a good outing.”NORBERT OKOLIE
