River Angels target win against Royal Queens in Sapele

The first stanza of this season’s Nigeria Women Football League Premiership season is set to come to an end this Wednesday with former champions, Rivers Angels aiming for a win as they play away to Royal Queens inside the Sapele Township stadium in one of the scheduled games.

The New Vision Queens are without a win in their last two matches but are determined to end the round with a win on the road as this would boost the confidence of the players, according to team captain, Catherine Kenneth.

Kenneth says she and her teammates are not pleased with the recent results they have had, describing it as demoralizing.

Hence, a win on Wednesday will return the confidence in the team and spur them going forward.

“This is probably one of our worst first round performance in a long time because we have this record of picking all points both home and away but this hasn’t been the case for us this time around.

“I think the new set of players we have are still trying to blend into our style of play, so it’s just time that we need.

“However, a win here tomorrow will surely be a good one for the team following the results from our last two games. It is the last one in this round so we really need this win.

“Royal Queens can be a difficult test but we’ll do our best in ensuring we edge them at the end of the game. A draw here is not even an option for us right now, all we want is to get the maximum point,” she added.

Also speaking ahead of Wednesday’s game is former Royal Queens forward, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu who is confident of a win over her former side.

“I am convinced we will win in tomorrow’s game, not because we are playing a bad side or anything because Royal Queens are a decent team but because we are like wounded lions at the moment.

“We dropped points in our last game which was at home and need to make up for it by picking the three points at stake tomorrow. A win here will restore our confidence,” she said.

Both sides met twice last season, the Jewel Of Rivers won 0-4 while Royal Queens came to Port Harcourt and went back with a 1-3 win over the former champions.
