Losing the Maiden Honourable Solomon Akwashiki Grassroots Football Tournament Cup final to rivals, St. James’ Stars FC was not the setting JAF Football Club had dreamed of, as the team was broken after their 4-5 penalty shootout loss on Saturday at the Science School Football Field, Lafia, Nasarawa State.
It was the first time both sides were meeting at a cup final.
Enjoying more ball possession from the blast of the whistle in a pulsating encounter watched by thousands of local spectators, including sponsor of the Competition and Member representing Lafia Central at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki(a.k.a Mr. Project), JAF FC were forced into penalty shootout after regulation time had ended 1-1 apiece.
Despite ending the 50-Club local tournament as Runners-up, it was a result one of the fastest rising local football clubs in Nasarawa State would forget in a hurry as they set focus on future challenges and prospects.
In the 3rd-placed play-off, Golden Boys FC defeated Lyon FC 2-1 to clinch the position.
Trophies and prizes were presented to the deserving clubs by Organizers of the Competition which Kick-started on Friday, 4th August, 2023.
