There is no doubt that Nigeria is a unique country likewise its citizens hence not many will agree with you on some issues, just like many will agree or disagree with the headline of this write-up for reasons best known to them.

Research has shown that most of the past ministers of sports in Nigeria are actually, “Ministers of Football because of their full involvement, concentration and engagement in the round leather game.

The moment they are announced as minister and sworn into office, they concentrate all their attentions on the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and forget that other federations exist.

In fact some of them were almost resuming at the glass House and taken over the position of the president of the NFF before they were cautioned and allegedly threatened by the world football governing body, FIFA.

Their bias and concentration on football was so obvious that they give approvals to all that concerns football administration and development while they leave other sports to suffer.

Without any preference for anybody, the present minister in the person of Sunday Dare seems to stand out and do things differently from what others did. Ever since he came on board, he has been seen to have touched every sports under him.

From his actions, he doesn’t seem to have any preference for any particular sport. Many have thought he was going to follow suit but they are surprise to see him get involved in almost every sport, he is not only giving attentions to them but also making sure that he is present at the venues of their events.

It was understood that others preferred football because of the kind of money that comes into the federation. At the last event where the NFF in conjunction with the Interim Management Committee, IMC presented cheque to the 20 NPFL teams, the Minister was not there but instead sent his Special Assistant on Social Media, Mr. Kola Daniel. Some people would have been there in person because of their preference for football.

The one that surprised many was at the last National Sports Festival, NSF in Asaba, Delta State where the Minister was seen at the Gymnastics event. Many did not expect him to be there hence only a few journalists were spotted at the venue. Actually many did not expect to see the Minister there when you consider how uncommon the sport is in Nigeria.

Mr. Dare has been spotted on several occasions at the trainings of the gymnasts in Abuja. Recently, he was in Ogbomoso, Oyo State to commission a basketball court. Although, many claimed that he was there on political ground, even at that, not many will choose basketball, they will rather use football.

Whether political or not, players can be discovered from that end and because the court will engage many youths, it will also help to take them off crimes in the university environment and by extension from Ogbomosho town.

If attending the commissioning of a basketball court in Ogbomoso is politically motivated, what about the presence of the Minister at the IBB Golf Course where tennis championship took place including that of the CBN tennis championship, the Wrestling championship in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, Rugby in Lagos, Swimming, Weightlifting, just to mention a few.

For those who might want to argue that Mr. Dare is also Football Minister, how do we explain the adopt-an-athlete programme and not adopt-a-footballer. During the programme, many athletes were given grant for their training programme and the evidences were seen during the last IAAF and the Olympics where Tobi Amusan and others did not only win medals but broke records.

There is no doubt that there are no perfect human beings on earth. Mr. Dare might have committed some blunders in some areas but his equal attention to every sports stands him out as one of the best ministers in the history of sports in Nigeria especially when you include the revival of some moribund stadia which have been revived and are still undergoing revival/renovation.

Mr. Sunday Dare has set record like his athletes (Amusan and others), it is believed that those that will come after him will follow his footsteps by not only giving attentions to other sports but also ensure that they live up to the billings. Congratulations to Mr. Dare for the job well done and hope he will finish well.
