We intend collaborating with NGOs to create vocational jobs for retired footballers in FCT – Barr. Nelson

Newly-elected Board member of the FCT Football Association, Barr. Babatunde Akintade Nelson said he intends to convince the board to collaborate with NGOs to create jobs for retiring footballers in the territory.

He made this revelation while speaking after his victory at the poll on Saturday.

The former Chairman of Likeminds Football Club, Gwagwalada said he noticed that most players roam the street after active playing football because they don’t have anything to fall back to after retirement.

His words, “I discussed with the newly-reelected Chairman, Alhaji Abba Mouktar, even before I was elected into the board that it is high time that the football clubsides collanorate with NGOs.

“If you look at football in Nigeria, out of the 22 players on the pitch, it is mostly one or two players that usually excel in life. The remaining ones end up roaming the street or pressing phones all day long. I believe if we can associate or collaborate with some of the NGOs, we might just get some vocational jobs for them, mayb for two or three hours while still playing orr after quitting active football,” he noted.

Barr. Akintade further disclosed that he picked interest in contesting for the position because he wants to see how he can impact on the lives of people through football in the FCT.

“During my campaign, I have always said it is not a do or die affairs. Coming into the board, is for us to come and see what we can do. They are not paying anybody salary there but we want to see how we can make impact in the FCT football association,” he concluded.

Recalled that he has resigned his chairmanship as the head of Likeminds Football Club, according to the statute governing football in the country.
