Last weekend between March 31st and April 2 will ever remain green in the minds of football followers especially fans and coaches of the clubs affected.
The weekend is what some people will describe as “Weekend of Sacks.” A weekend where more than five coaches were sacked by their various clubsides.
In Spain, Valladolid and Espanyol sacked their coaches and they have since replaced them with interim managers.
Diego Martínez was sent packing as Espanyol coach. Sunday’s defeat against Girona was his last after a bad run of results.
Espanyol slipped to 17th on the La Liga table, after losing four straight league games.
Real Valladolid also fired coach Jose ‘Pacheta’ Rojo on Monday.
The Bundesliga also had its own share of sack as VfB Stuggart relieved their head coach Bruno Labbadia after four months in charge and appointed Sebastian Hoeneß as his replacement until summer 2025.
Penultimate week, it was highly-rated Bayern Munich that sacked their coach, Nagelsmann and replaced him with another German coach, Thomas Tuchel who last coached Chelsea.
In England, Chelsea eventually sacked their coach who many believed is long overdue. Chelsea’s sack of Graham Potter made the biggest headline because of the club’s Champions league status couple with the fact that they just won the World Club Cup.
Potter was relieved after poor run of form, probably the worst ever since Russian billionaire, Abrahimovic took over. Just seven wins in 22 matches. Chelsea is presently 11th on the EPL table.
Another shocking news over the weekend was the sack of Leceister City coach, Brendan Rodgers. Many have thought that Rodgers would have been one of the first sets of coaches to have been sacked especially from the beginning of the season because of the poor run of form of Leceister.
The club kept faith with him and left him until last weekend. In his four years of stint with the club, the former Liverpool manager won a FA cup for the club.
Meanwhile, 12 Managers have so far be sacked in the ongoing 2022/23 season, the highest so far in the history of the English Premier League, EPL.
Notable amongst the clubs that have sacked and replaced their coaches in the EPL are Tottenham Hotspur, Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C, Brighton, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Leeds, just to mention a few.
