Ogun State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka said they have spent so much to put facilities in place hence they are going to secure them from rotting.

He gave this assurance while addressing the press at the Media Centre of the MKO Abiola Sport Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The man who also doubles as the Local Organizing Committee Chairman said because of the sensitivity of some of the facilities, they are going to partner with professionals and private sector to manage the facilities.

Hon. Isiaka said they cannot afford to allow those facilities to rot away because they have spent so much money on them to build and revamp them.

His words, “As of today, we have four stadia in Ogun State, two in Abeokuta, one in Ijebu-Ode and one in Sagamu. Presently, we have developed two, we wanted to develop five but there is no way, so the participation of public-private sector is very paramount. I take swimming for instance, we believe that anybody that will handle it must have the technical know-how. We are going to bring in people that we will partner with. None of those facilities will be allowed to rot. The government wants to get good value for the money spent, I can assure you that none of the facilities will rot away.”

On the athletes participating for the State, Hon. Isiaka said they have also spent so much money discovering and nurturing the athletes hence they cannot afford to lose them to other States.

“The discovery of athletes took us a lot of time and work. We also have our own plans in place, which is to keep them, and nurture them to stardom, so we won’t allow anybody to lure them away. I can assure you that we are not just going to discover but keep them,” Hon. Isiaka said.

Recalled that Ogun State athletes are performing excellently well at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Abeokuta. As at press time, they were fourth on the medal table.
