World Cup Expulsion: SWAN urges FG, Sports Ministry to apologise, compensate D’Tigress

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, FCT Chapter Has call on the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to as a matter of urgency tender a public apology to the Nigeria Senior Women’s National basketball team, D’Tigress.

This call was made in a commumique signed by the Drafting Committee chairman, Mr. Niyi Busari at its congress last Thursday at FCT NUJ office, Utako Abuja.

SWAN also urged the government to compensate for the team for the role they played in the team’s expulsion from the FIBA Women’s World Cup 2022 which is upcoming.

The Association however commended the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sport Development for the support and encouragement given to the athletes that led to the successes recorded at the just-concluded Commonwealth Games. An outing rated as Nigeria’s best since inception of the Games.

FCT SWAN also congratulated the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for not elongating the tenure of the executive committee members and thereby setting up apparatus for elections which will happen on 30th September 2022.

The Congress of Association also set up a three-man Committee to organise a Presidential Debate for aspirants in the forthcoming’ NFF election slated for Moshood Abiola Stadium this September.

The three-man.constituted to midwife a successful ‘NFF PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE are: Chris Onokpegu, Niyi Busari and Calister Enegele.
