Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Mr. Tunde Popoola has described Gymnastics as not just ordinary sports but a religion and passion.
He made this assertion after the elections into the board of the Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria, GFN on Saturday in Gwarinpa, Abuja, which saw Prince Kelvin Erhunwmunse emerging as the President for the third consecutive time.
Popoola who represented NOC at the election said, “For many of us, gymnastics is more than a sport. It’s a passion, a calling, almost like a religion. It demands full commitment, and what we witnessed here this morning was a commendable demonstration of that dedication.”
The Scribe however commended the Gymnastics Federation for conducting a credible, free and fair election. “What they have done here today is very significant especially for the young athletes we serve.”
However, Mr. Popoola emphasized the importance of unity and adherence to the federation’s constitution in moving forward.
“What we need now, both within the Federation and across the country, is unity. We must be able to build consensus and move forward together. At the Nigeria Olympic Committee, we strongly uphold the autonomy of federations and the rule of law. As long as your constitution remains unchallenged, it stands as your authoritative framework,” he concluded.
